So, my original 2013 Mk1 XT1032 Moto G phone (unbranded retail one from Amazon) just updated itself to Lollipop (Android 5) today.
Cheapo old phone, now running (almost) the latest software. That's made my day. And it actually seems to work better than before. Unlike the iPod touch where IOS 8.x has made it noticeably slower to respond than IOS 7.
